5.8 is small and generally not much to worry about. It's enough to rattle your paintings and china cabinet but not much else.

I think small earthquakes are sometimes seen as good signs. Better to have a 5.8 earthquake every 5 years than one 8.5 earthquake every 75 years.

5.8s happen every few months or so. It's no biggie. Get into the 7's and you'll have to worry about people getting hurt. The News likes to exagerate this kind of stuff. I'm more worried about all the wildfires this summer.

CNN just reported that there was concern about a couple of nuclear plants that were relatively close to the quake. Now they are saying that the closest one was about 50 miles from the epicenter and the quake was not really strong enough to hamper operations at all. So that is good news thus far.

Why are southern Californians so whiny about earthquakes? In the Bay Area, we sleep through 5.8s.

uhm probably same reason why someone not native to tornado alley would complain. I was just asking I thought you lived in LA or something. My mistake. I'm actually fascinated by this. I wasn't complaining. but whatever.
